Norway-based Statkraft has begun construction on Ireland’s largest solar farm at Ballymacarney, County Meath. The 200MW development will produce enough renewable energy to power 40,000 homes. It was awarded a contract under the Government’s first Renewable Energy Support Scheme.

The development comprises solar arrays, MV power stations and client substation, 7 battery storage containers, earthen berms and screen planting including hedgerows and trees. An extensive environmental impact assessment (EIA) has been carried out for the project. This included landscape and visual, archaeology, ecology, hydrology, glare/dark sky assessment and more.
The EIA was commissioned by Meath County Council and was submitted in accordance with the EIA Guidelines.
